![]() ![]() ELIZA was named after Eliza Doolittle, the Cockney flower girl character from George Bernard Shaw's play Pygmalion, who Professor Higgins was training to speak correctly. Joaquin Phoenix plays a lonely writer who falls in love with the AI system on his phone, voiced by Scarlett Johansson.ĮLIZA, developed by Joseph Weizenbaum at MIT in 1966, was arguably the first Chatbot. In the 2013 movie, Her, we see a considered and nuanced view of the impact of AI on humanity. In more recent times, AI has featured in the MCU (Marvel Cinema Universe) in the form of JARVIS, the AI system created by billionaire Tony Stark, aka Iron Man, to control the systems and weapons within Iron Man's suit. The movie provides us with a dystopian view of AI in the then future as HAL felt compelled to kill several crew members to complete its mission successfully. The mirror responded and identified Snow White as the fairest of them all but also geo-located her as currently residing with the seven dwarves!ĭirector Stanley Kubrick introduced us to HAL 9000 in his 1968 classic 2001: A Space Odyssey.
